Magpie by 7Sins7 Magpie by 7Sins7
Next time you cant find your keys, you'll know where they went. :D

This picture started life as standard fairy image no.1293848100 with a simple background and no props, but then I began to concentrate on the petite look of this particular fairy and how I could reflect that by using scaled up objects placed around her. Originally I put her in a room with a huge wizards spellbook, a vase, a cup and a club - classic fantasy stuff. Then inspiration struck in a land of the giants kind of way and I decided to place her among more modern props in a garden setting. Anyway, something a bit different from me. It's nice to be different.

Thanks as always for stopping by to take and look and for comments / faves if you like her enough.

She's cute and the setting you've put her in is really good actually.
Something a little bit different and all the better for it.
I love how it looks like she's in the process of tip-toeing away with the keys. Dang it!!! :D

Wonderful. Her pose and expression really accentuate her petite look and do a great job of providing us with a peek at this personality with the odd compulsion to collect bits of shiny.

Magpies have long been one of my favorite birds. I find them fascinating as you can teach them to talk and yet they are relatives of crows and ravens. I hear if you fork a crow's tongue, you can teach it to talk, as well, but that may not even be true. And actually, kinda cruel.

As for magpies, they're attracted to shiny things, jewels especially, and I think you captured that well, here. Of all the things on the table, she went for the keys, probably because they're the shiniest. I like the look of mischief, and her pose tells me that she's trying to be quiet. How she's holding the keys actually suggests that she's trying to keep them from clanking, as well. A myriad of complexities done explicitly well here. Bravo!

Thank you for a very thoughtful comment. I deliberately made her go for the keys because of the famed habit magpies have of helping themselves to shiny things. Nice to hear that my attempts to give her a mischevious look and a 'must be quiet, must not get caught' pose worked successfully, always nice when that happens!

She looks gorgeous. Equal parts cute and sexy, the later having a great deal to do with her wild copper tresses and her bandage outfit. She's like a...Hmm...I guess I would say she's like Zack Snyder's version of Tinkerbell. Have to admit, I was absolutely floored by the choice to put her in a modern context.

I haven't been to the book-store in some time (not since I was fired from one) but to my knowledge there are not all that many really good Fantasy stories set in a modern setting. Yes, I get that those are two settings in conflict with one another by *name* alone. I know there are some graphic novels along those lines (Fables and the like) but no novels I can think of. (Pause)...*that* gives me an idea. (Laughs) Sins, you're an inspiration and a muse all rolled together. Special nod to the pack of Spearmint Gum. I really loved that.

As to the Fairy herself, I think the overall design is pretty damn outstanding; I think her frilled braces, which are somewhat flower like, match her Wings, which I particularly enjoyed because they were not the atypical Fairy Wings. Last, but not least, is her face. It's just perfect. Her expression is akin to coyness and being caught with her hand in the cookie jar. Brilliant. As always, you do amazing work with eyes. They're gorgeous here.

'Zack Snyder's Tinkerbell' - I like it, haha :D

Thinking about it a guy could get a lot of mileage out of the 'fantasy in a modern setting' theme, loads of potential there ...

*starts to picture Dragons holding up traffic and Orcs demanding extra fries at McDonalds*

Well I think I have something to fall back on next time I am stuck for ideas! Thanks for yet another awesome comment Glen, always great to hear from you. :salute:

"Dragyn Wytch" is a good modern-day fantasy. Also, try to catch the "Signs of the Zodiac" series by Kim Pettersen. I found those pretty entertaining. They're labelled "paranormal romance" but have all the elements of fantasy to keep a D&D gamer like me reading.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm familiar with the Kim Pettersen series from my time working at Borders, and frankly I always stayed away from it for fear that it walked too closely to the Anita Blake books that, while good, became far to Homo-erotic for me. The somewhat sexist thing there is that if the protagonist of Lauren K Hamilton's books had been male, having sex with damn near every female character as opposed to Anita getting her freak on everywhere, I would not have had a problem. Dragyn Wytch though sounds quite interesting. I'll have to look it up.
